IOF World Ranking Event.
The IOF have, on 7th May 2009, awarded Day 1 World Ranking Event Status (WRE), applying to Elite courses.

Dalrulzion is a new area for orienteering, north of Blairgowrie on the A93 road to Glenshee and Braemar.  The area is centred on Dalrulzion forest, on the north east part of the Hill of Persie, plus some open land to the north east and to the south.

The forest is typical of many Scottish commercial forests.  There are areas of fast running, other areas where partially rotted thinnings slow progress.  Some areas have good visibility and in other parts, often where the running is fastest, visibility is restricted.  There is plenty of contour detail, some of it quite intricate and many rock features.

The open land near the assembly area in the north-east is rough grazing with old field boundaries and foundations of ruined buildings.  The open land to the south is moorland with plenty of rock and contour features.

Essential Details

Below is essential information to help you plan your journey to Day 1. However we strongly recommend you check the Event Programme for full details of arrangements for Day 1.

Directions from Event Centre (Perth Racecourse): Follow the A93 north through Blairgowrie for 25 miles (40kms). This is a slow road and overtaking is not easy, so please drive with patience The main parking area and Assembly is in a field to the left of the A93, 3 miles (5kms) north of Bridge of Cally. Traffic from the west should follow the A924 from Pitlochry, turn left in Kirkmichael onto the B950, and turn right onto the A93. This traffic, along with any approaching the event along the A93 from the north, will require to turn right into the assembly field. A new wide gate is being constructed which hopefully will ease traffic flow.

All competitors must arrive before 1230 hrs. NO EXIT BEFORE 1230 hrs.

Approximate distance from Event Centre: 40km/25 miles.

Distance from Car Park to Assembly: Adjacent (Buses 500m).

Distance from Assembly to Starts: Red 2700m, Blue/Green 2200m, Yellow 350m, White 800m.

Nearest places of interest: Blairgowrie, Glenshee, Strathardle, Glen Isla.

Details of other competition areas: Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6
