Getting here

Tayside is one of the most accessible areas of Scotland, with excellent road and rail links to the rest of Scotland and the UK, plus a growing number of direct air and sea links to Europe and North America.

By Sea

Scotland’s only connection by sea to mainland Europe is the Rosyth-Zeebrugge ferry. Rosyth is around 60km/35 miles south of Perth. The original service, run by SuperFast Ferries, ceased operations in September 2008. However it has been announced that a new operator, Norfolkline, plans to restart the service, beginning on May 18.

By Air

Perth’s closest airport is at Dundee (DND), which has a limited number of services including at present daily flights to London, Birmingham and Belfast. Dundee airport is around 35km/20 miles east of Perth.

Aberdeen (ABZ), Inverness (INV), Glasgow Prestwick (PIK), and especially Glasgow International (GLA) and Edinburgh (EDI) airports all offer a wider selection of flights to and from other locations in the UK and Ireland, Scandinavia, Central Europe and North America.

By Rail

Perth station lies on the main rail routes between Glasgow and Dundee/Aberdeen to the northeast and Glasgow-Inverness to the northwest. There are also a number of trains from Edinburgh direct to Perth. For travellers from the rest of the UK, many East Coast mainline and Cross Country services stop at Dundee; travellers on West Coast routes will need to change trains at Glasgow.

By Road

Perth is one of the main hubs of Scotland’s road network, and is easily reached by excellent roads from the southwest, south, north and northeast:

The A9 dual carriageway and M9 motorway links Perth with Stirling; and then by the M80/A80 to Glasgow, the southwest of Scotland (including the Northern Ireland ferry ports) and England.
The M90 motorway links Perth with the ferry port of Rosyth, Edinburgh and the Borders, and then by the A1 to northeast England.
The A90 dual carriageway links Perth with Dundee, Aberdeen and the northeast
The A9 links Perth with Aviemore, Inverness and the central and northern Highlands.
