Things to do
In the months leading up to the event, we’ll provide details of the Tay 2009 social programme.
We’ll also be giving you some suggestions for things to do when you’re not orienteering. Here’s a list for starters:
- Scone Palace, next to the Event Centre and where Kings of Scotland were once crowned.
- Verdant Works and Sensation, both Dundee: two of the best museums in Scotland. Verdant Works focuses on the Dundee jute industry, while Sensation is a science centre with a difference!
- A night of culture… at Perth’s new Concert Hall, Pitlochry’s Festival Theatre, or Dundee’s Repertory Theatre.
- The Hermitage, Dunkeld, a beautiful woodland and riverside walk.
- A round of golf at one of the world’s most famous golf courses - St Andrews, Carnoustie, Gleneagles, and many more…
- Lunan Bay, north of Arbroath, a superb beach just up the road from the home of the Arbroath smokie (smoked haddock).
- Dundee’s famous ships - Captain Scott’s Discovery, the Frigate Unicorn and the North Carr Lightship.
- Glamis Castle, the most haunted castle in Scotland, childhood home of the late Queen Mother.
- Glenshee, in winter one of Scotland’s ski centres, but in the summer giving easy access to the southern Grampian mountains, now part of the Cairngorms National Park.
- Some of Scotland’s best hillwalking - Schiehallion, Ben Lawers, Beinn a’Ghlo, or lower level walks through beautiful glens and alongside beautiful lochs.
- Meikleour Beech Hedge - The UK’s tallest hedge, on the A93 between Perth and Blairgowrie.
- and many more…
