Getting to Tayside

Tayside is one of the most accessible areas of Scotland, with excellent road and rail links to the rest of Scotland and the UK, plus a growing number of direct air and sea links to Europe and North America.

By Sea

At present, Scotland's only connection by sea to mainland Europe is the Rosyth-Zeebrugge ferry, sailing several times a week. Rosyth is around 60km/35 miles south of Perth.

For more information, see the Superfast Ferries web site.

By Air

Perth's closest airport is at Dundee (DND), which has a limited number of services including at present daily flights to London, Birmingham and Belfast. Dundee airport is around 35km/20 miles east of Perth.

For more information on flights to Dundee airport, visit the Dundee Airport web site.

Aberdeen (ABZ), Inverness (INV), Glasgow Prestwick (PIK), and especially Glasgow International (GLA) and Edinburgh (EDI) airports all offer a wider selection of flights to and from other locations in the UK and Ireland, Scandinavia, Central Europe and North America.

For more information, see the respective airport web sites:

By Rail

Perth station lies on the main rail routes between Glasgow and Dundee/Aberdeen to the northeast and Glasgow-Inverness to the northwest. There are also a number of trains from Edinburgh direct to Perth. For travellers from the rest of the UK, many East Coast mainline and Cross Country services stop at Dundee; travellers on West Coast routes will need to change trains at Glasgow.

For more information about access to Perth by train, visit the National Rail Enquiries web site.

By Road

Perth is one of the main hubs of Scotland's road network, and is easily reached by excellent roads from the southwest, south, north and northeast:
