Sprint Orienteering - map and terrain description available

To whet your appetite, Dave Prentice, planner of the Sprint Orienteering event on Wednesday 5th August, has provided a more detailed terrain description of the Scone Palace grounds being used for the event, plus some map extracts.

The Scone Sprint O will require some good navigation, fast running through the parkland areas, and perhaps a paddle.  It will take runners through quite complex gardens, into parkland, onto an ‘island’ which was only recently discovered (by the planner) to be tidal (just) and through Racecourse buildings to a finish in front of the main stand.
The nature of some of the terrain is illustrated by two map extracts of the updated map (which is now to ISSOM standards) which can be seen below.

Note that starts are now from 3.30 pm and advised start times will be displayed at Day 3, allocating you to a 15 mins start block.  Also note if considering footwear, that there will be approx 200m running on stony ground and 200m on tarmac.
