Terrain

The 6 event areas are geographically spread across the area, from the North Sea coastline to Highland Perthshire. The range of forested and open areas - a combination of new and familiar areas - provide Tay 2009 with perhaps the widest range of orienteering challenges of any Six Day Competition so far.

Map of Tayside showing location of event centre and six individual days.

The 6 areas are:

Day 1: Dalrulzion.
A brand new area for 2009 - plantation forest and moorland, and intricate rock and contour detail throughout.
Day 2: Kinnoull and Deuchny.
A well known local area, right on the edge of Perth and a real mixture of natural oak and birch and plantation forest; with a complex network of paths.
Day 3: Tullochroisk.
Returning to the venue of the Jan Kjellstrom 2000 Relays. Classic Highland Perthshire orienteering, technically and physically challenging.
Day 4: Tentsmuir.
Complex coastal pine forest, one of Lowland Scotland's finest areas.
Day 5: Barry Buddon.
A rare opportunity to visit an area of detailed duneland, next to the Carnoustie Championship golf course.
Day 6: Loch Ordie.
A new area of challenging navigation over Perthshire moorland.
