2012 Scottish Thistle Awards
After winning the category in 2009, the Scottish 6 Days Orienteering Event Company was delighted that the Oban 2011 event recently attracted recognition as the 2012 Scottish Thistle Awards - Best Sporting Event finalist from the SW region.
We congratulate the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon for winning the overall finals. It is heartening that an event that also attracts thousands of people to run in the Highlands has received the accolade this time. We look forward to adding to the numbers enjoying what the Highlands has to offer at our next event in Moray 2013.

Oban 2011 event wins Regional Thistle Trophy
The Scottish 6 Days, Oban 2011 has won the Thistle Central South West Region award for the Best Sporting Event.
At a ceremony in Glasgow today, Wed 23rd May, Paul Frost & Lynne Walker representing the event, collected a very nice Caithness glass trophy and certificate.

Scottish Thistle Awards 2012 Regional Finalist
The Oban 2011 event is in the final three for the Best Sporting Event Award in the Central South West Regional finals.
Winners will be announced on 23rd May at the Centre for Contemporary Arts, Glasgow and will be shortlisted for the national finals in November.
The 2009 event won the National award, so let’s keep our fingers crossed for a repeat performance.

2015 World Orienteering Championships coming to Scotland
British Orienteering awarded the 2015 World Orienteering Championships
At a press conference today the International Orienteering Federation announced that British Orienteering will host the 2015 World Orienteering Championships. There was competition to stage the event with Sweden submitting a strong bid; however the strength of the British Orienteering bid won favour with the IOF.
The Championships will be based in Inverness during August 2015 and will utilise the world class terrain along the Moray coast and in the Cairngorms National Park. The Scottish 6 Days will run in parallel to the Championships and will bring 5000 competitors to the area boosting the local economy by an estimated £2 million.

Oban 2011 event up for award
The Oban 2011 event was in the final three for the Event of the Year, in the Sunday Mail & sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards, facebook page.
The other two finalists were the Walker Cup and the Davis Cup Tennis.
The award ceremony took place on Thursday 1st December at the Glasgow Thistle Hotel, and the Walker Cup won the award.
