Dry feet on Day 4
Edited on 13th Jul 2011
Competitors crossing the River Lonan on Day 4 can be guaranteed dry feet thanks to a new footbridge being constructed especially for the event.
This permanent structure, made possible thanks to funding from the Argyll & The Islands LEADER programme, will ensure that even in flood conditions competitors can safely cross from assembly to and from the main competition area.
Of course we hope for a long dry summer, but with the new bridge access to the area can always be guaranteed. The new structure, two spans covering a total of over 16 metres, will also allow access by quad bike for the farmer or other groups such as the rescue services.
CTS Bridges have already supplied similar “kit” bridges to Scotland, notably the High Bridge walk by Spean Bridge. One extra challenge that had to be overcome for the Torinturk bridge was the existing pier rising 2.5 metres above the river bed – this has to be demolished and a new assembly built to meet the demands of a “certified structure”.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee dry feet in the competition area itself!
