Thank You https://www.scottish6days.com/2015/thank-you https://www.scottish6days.com/2015/thank-you#When:09:34:00Z

On behalf of Scottish Orienteering and the 6 Day Company, we would like to pass on our gratitude and admiration to everyone involved in staging Highland 2015. Under the outstanding leadership of Richard Oxlade, the team delivered an event of exceptional quality. Richard’s calm approach to dealing with the many issues that arose in the preparation for the event, and during the week itself, gave everyone confidence that we could do it. And that’s how it proved.

Highland 2015 logo

Highland 2015 has finished! Thank you to everyone who entered – we hope you enjoyed the experience of watching the world’s best in action, and the opportunity to compete in the same forests.

We think we broke our attendance record – over 6000 entered for the week. This inevitably put some pressure on our largely volunteer organisation and we would like to thank everyone involved for the enormous effort they made to stage the event during their holidays. We would also like to thank the WOC organising team for staging a fantastic World Championships. It made Highland 2015 a unique experience for everyone who attended.

We had a few logistical challenges. Running a major sporting event in a Highland Glen at the end of an 8km single track with no communications isn’t easy. We would like to thank the volunteers who stepped in to help at the last minute. And we would like to apologise to anyone who was delayed by traffic or had to walk further than expected. Hopefully being able to run in unique world class terrain made it worthwhile.

The Scottish 6 Days will be back in Royal Deeside from 30th July to the 5th August. We would love to see you there. Please look out for further details on the Scottish 6 Days 2017 website.

They think it’s all over – it is now, it’s six.  Another excellent day at Glen Affric, with an amended parking plan following some unexpected issues as the last orienteers left through Tomich on Day 5.  Apologies go to those who were a long way from the arena in the Tomich Hotel car park but hopefully with flexibility at the starts you enjoyed your runs over some world-class terrain.

A big thank you to all the last minute volunteers who helped us on Day 5. We could not have done it without you. Especially the people who had to man a gate in case the cows escaped and never saw a cow all day.

Information Update for Day 6, Sat 8th August

Day 6 Parking

Thank you to everyone who made Day 5's parking so successful, especially the last minute volunteers. We could not have managed this without you. I hope you enjoyed a great final day of the World Championships, that you didn't find today's courses too tough and that you are looking forward to running on the World Championships area on Saturday.

Please could you aim to arrive at Tomich about 90 minutes before your start time.

The plan for Saturday's parking is similar to Friday, although we have been asked to reduce the number of vehicles using the south side of the glen, and make more use of the parking at the Tomich Hotel.

- We plan to park the majority of cars in the arena car park.
- Campervans will be directed to the same car park as today.
- 4x4 cars will be directed to the south side, possibly using the campervan car park.
- We will probably park single occupancy cars at Tomich Hotel, and ask you to get a lift to the arena from other orienteers.

Traders & caterers will be similar to Friday.

As Friday, please obey marshals, pace your arrival and be patient if we have problems.

Thanks

WOC is finally over and I hope it is recognised that without the Scottish 6 Days it could not have happened.  I can breathe a sigh of relief as Assistant Director that at least WOC has been the great success we had all wished for.  Thierry “King of the Forest (and Mountain)” again.  Today’s report must give a special mention to the S6D Event Coordinator Richard Oxlade – along with the day organisers, farmer Willie Birnie and landowner Donald Fraser at Guisachan, Richard helped pull together a cunning plan that allowed everyone in and everyone out of the Day 5 race arena.

This is part of the Highland O-Fest, and will be a 50 minute Score event. The course planned will have plenty of route choice options, which will cater for all ranges of physical fitness. It is a really pleasant, relatively flat forest to ride through.

What a fantastic area we all ran on today.  We were under a lot of pressure with the overnight rain which made driving over the end of the trackway a bit hazardous.  Too high for some low slung vehicles.  We had always planned to use the WOC Relay area but we ran back into the field where they ran out.  The crossing point was very obvious, as the estate had to take out a 150 foot high beech tree suffering from a fungal disease that can cause sudden collapse.  I hope you enjoyed yet another bridge – not a 36 metre floating one but a springy 6 metre ditch crossing on the green and white start.  One more bridge to go!
