The 6 Day Company equipment is available for loan/hire to other orienteering events in Scotland and the rest of the UK.
The Scottish 6 Days Orienteering event (“the 6-Days”) is a biennial event, first held in 1977, and taking place in a different area of Scotland each time. As the largest orienteering event in the UK, each 6-Days event typically attracts over 3500 competitors plus additional families and friends, and brings an enormous economic boost to the local area.
The Data Protection Act 1998 imposes rules and safeguards on those who hold and process personal data, i.e. data relating to living identifiable individuals. Details of usage must be notified to the UK Information Commissioner, with some exceptions which include not-for-profit organisations whose usage is restricted to specified purposes. The Scottish Orienteering 6 Day Event Company Limited (“the Company”) is exempt from notification but the principles setting out rules and safeguards do apply. In the interests of being open and fair, the Company wishes to make known the data held and how it is used.
Results are available for all the events from 1977 through to 2013.
Plus survey results for 2003 and 2005.
Relationships between the 6-Day Company Board and the Central Organisation of Individual 6-Day Events
The Scottish Orienteering 6-Day Event is a high quality orienteering event in terms of terrain, maps and organisation. It also has a friendly and helpful approach towards both the competitor and the volunteer on whom the event depends.
It is also recognised that one of the purposes of the event is to aid with the promotion and development of the sport of orienteering in Scotland (through the contributions to the funding of professional staff, clubs and squads).
