Auchingarrich proved a tough and testing area for the first day of Strathearn 2019, as orienteers from around the world enjoyed challenging terrain on a day with sunshine and a light breeze.
Day 1 was also a challenge for organisers, with split car parking and race arena, an inch of rain the day before, and a last-minute detour for the walk to the start. Thanks go to all the various teams, led by Day Organiser Sue Barrie, who helped deliver a first-class orienteering experience, and to everyone who had to walk a little further than hoped.
Sunday 28th July
Auchingarrich has a classic mix of plantation forest, with a surprisingly intricate network of rides; technically detailed open hillside and some faster running on the fields and woodland of the valley floor to the north.
The Livestream today is focused on the M/W 55L but not exclusively.
and GPS Tracking
The aim of the Livestream is to cover the breadth and depth of orienteering that we see every two years at the Scottish 6 Days. Therefore, the coverage will focus on different age classes each day. As well as the Livestream there will be GPS tracking available separately.
Please check if you have been selected to carry a tracker.
See below for the links to each days coverage.
TickApp is a citizen science project run by SRUC and the University of Edinburgh that aims to estimate people’s risk of exposure to ticks in Scotland. We are attending orienteering events to compare the number of ticks collected using survey transects (scientific method) with the number of ticks reported by people after orienteering in the same area. These data will be used to get better measures of how often people encounter ticks whilst doing outdoor activities, and help map tick distribution in Scotland.

For the main 6 Days, a full range of age classes is available, from M/W10 to M/W85. White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green, and Green courses are also available for less experienced or casual orienteers.
The starts locations are referred to by colour, these have nothing to do with the colour of courses. See the table of classes below for details.
Also, you may have noticed on the programme that we also have a touch-free finish.
