The 2015 Scottish 6 days – HIGHLAND 2015 - is pleased to have Event Scotland as a sponsor and we are equally pleased to promote The Year of Food and Drink Scotland 2015 which celebrates the country’s outstanding natural larder and produce. Event Scotland invite you to “Enjoy brilliant moments packed with regional delights and discover the landscapes, people and culture that make our food heritage so unique. Come and experience it and taste the very best Scotland has to offer.”

Scottish food providers (along with our usual orienteering food providers, equipment traders, services and exhibitors) will be in the arenas at all the 6 Day races plus some will be at Eden Court (6 Day Registration Day Sat 1st August) and at the Food & Craft fair, part of the O-Fest (Tuesday 4th August).

Event Scotland have provided a Food & Drink marquee in every arena which will have tables and chairs to use whilst eating some of the delicious food on offer and at the O-Fest this will house the Food and Craft fair.

I have been asked many strange things but one of the strangest was while working on my daily round just north of Glasgow last winter and was asked “what’s the road conditions like in Aberdeen?”

I can’t wait to attend the World Orienteering Championship and serve Really Awesome Coffee’s specially roasted blend of coffee beans to provide customers with a truly awesome coffee experience.

Onosh

We have been going a bit over 3 years. We cater for Orienteering events all around the UK. For Scottish 6 Days 2015 we will bring a team of 6: Romualdas, Eleonora, Jonathan, Rimvydas, Zaneta and Lukas.

Orienteering is a big part of our lives. Half of our team are orienteers and the other half supports us when we go to competitions. Two of us will run in this year's Scottish 6 days.
We have catered for all the major Orienteering events in last three years including the last Scottish 6 Days (Moray 2013).

As caterers it will be our biggest event so far. As a runners we have been in events such as JUKOLA (representing best non Scandinavian team IGTISA). Also as a junior Romualdas took part in JWOC and YEOC as part of the Lithuanian team.

The funniest thing that happens to us: despite being Orienteers, we nearly always get lost on the way to Orienteering event!

Our best seller is Veggie Chilli and Jacket potatoes. We always offer good and quality food. We say that all Orienteers are like our family so we always do our best.

British & Continental (Tom's)

Scottish 6 day regulars, Julie and Tom Wilkinson.

Tom's southern based trailers specialise in orienteering events, we have catered for orienteers at numerous events around the country for the last 10 years.

For the Scottish 6 Days we will be bringing two trailers with a team of 8 staff: Tom & Julie, Mark & Sarah, Alan, Warren, Mark & Lyndsey. All of whom at sometime have worked at an orienteering event with us. Our main goal with orienteering is to provide a reliable friendly service.

The German trailer will have fresh 95% meat Bratwurst Sausages as well as Bacon & Egg Rolls, Beef Burgers, Jumbo Hotdogs, Tea & Coffee and a variety of Cold Drinks. The Black Refreshments trailer will have The Three Bean & Lentil Chilli, Jacket Potatoes, Bacon & Egg  Rolls, Beef Burgers, Jumbo Hotdogs, Tea & Coffee and a variety of Cold Drinks.

WE DON'T SERVE FAST FOOD
WE SERVE GOOD FOOD FAST

This will be our 5th trip up to Scotland for a main event, we have also covered the J.K., Lakes, Croeso and  British Champs to name a few. We thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and the friendships we have built up over the years.

Our funniest moment was catering at the J.K. in Belfast University, we caught the ferry from Stranraer to Belfast, having driven off the ferry heading towards the university we stopped at some traffic lights and some orienteers shouted out "Yes,Tom's here!"

Equipment and other

We have been in the orienteering world since 1991. Two of our staff will be competing in the Scottish 6 Days: John and Paula (the youngest!). All our staff run regularly, Paula since she started walking.

This is our first WOC event, but we have been to multi-day competitions in France and Portugal.

We hope to help runners find the item they need. We stock a good variety of shoes and running accessories at competitive prices.

Compass Point

Specialists supplying orienteering equipment to a wide range of customers including club runners, military organisations, schools & colleges and outdoor centres. Website

Compass Point is a family run business established in 1991 by Rick and Angela Houghton. Rick is a mechanical engineer who has been involved with outdoor activities since the start of secondary school, Angela came to sports later in life after meeting Rick in 1979. Our children have all orienteered and Vicky and Luke will be on hand to help at the shop. Amanda who has regularly worked at the bigger events will have given birth to our first grandchild the week before, and so can’t be with us. As well two of our good friends and BASOC members Joy and Ewan Cameron will also be helping as well as running. Neil McLean who ran our Scottish agency for many years will also be on hand to help again when not running.

We specialise in supplying orienteering equipment to a wide range of customers including club runners, military organisations, schools & colleges and outdoor centres. We have established a wide customer base in the UK and world wide and our often pleasantly commented on as to our wide range and excellent friendly customer service.

I [Rick] started Orienteering and fell running in 1983 when I joined my only club SROC, initially it was a means to get fitter for climbing and to improve my navigation. The enjoyment of orienteering soon took hold and I was going to events far more than climbing. I soon got into the organisation side of the sport and was on SROCs committee for nine years which was a good challenge.

Our first taste of a big event was when the WMOC was in Strathspey in the 90’s, I didn’t know what had hit me when bus loads of scandinavians arrived at the event field. Our next big event was of course WOC in 1999 when we were involved with Silva and the sponsorship of the event. In more recent times we have taken the shop further afield into Europe and are now well established on the european major event circuit. In recent years we have been invited & attended:
2006 WMOC Austria
2008 WMOC Portugal
2009 JWOC Italy
2010 JWOC Denmark, WMOC Switzerland
2011 JWOC Poland, WOC France
2012 WMOC Germany
2013 JWOC Czech republic
2014 WOC Italy

One funny incident was when I had the shop at the LAMM mountain marathon in Arrochar, I was also competing that weekend. At the over night camp Martin Stone was walking round with his load speaker trying to locate me because a girl had arrived  at midcamp with her sole off her shoe. We managed to locate John who was looking after the van while I was running and he got a pair of shoes back into the mountains at mid camp so the girl was able to start day 2 ok, she phoned up a few days later to pay for them. Can you imagine that kind of service being given on the high street?

Nowadays there is a great selection of technical clothing that not only works well for the runner but also looks great, its all part of the orienteering experience. If you feel good you often perform that little bit better. We stock the most comprehensive range of equipment from a European orienteering shop, Overseas organisers say this is one of the reasons they like to invite us to their events . Customers like our open layout where things are easy to find. Our suppliers include Trimtex, Siven & Ronhill for clothing. VJ, Icebug, Walsh and Inov-8 for shoes and Silva, Osport & Moscow for compasses.

Saddleworth Outdoor specialize in providing branded performance apparel for sport, leisure and adventure at discounted prices. The business was set up in 2010 and is run by husband and wife team Steven and Jill Lees, both of whom will be in attendance throughout the event.

Our association with orienteering initially was purely commercial but over the years we have built up a number of great relationships and friendships with Orienteers.

We have attended the last two Scottish 6 events (Oban 2011 and Moray 2013) as well as the Welsh 6-day, J.K. and British Championship events. However this will be our first WOC event.

We are looking forward to the whole atmosphere and friendliness that surrounds the event and of course the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Highlands.

We specialize in clothing rather than equipment and like to think we offer the most comprehensive and competitively priced selection of competition clothing, footwear and weatherwear for both adults and children. "IN FACT WE HAVE SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY AT THE RIGHT PRICE"
