An event campsite with capacity for over 750 orienteers will be established in Ballater. The campsite will be sited in flat fields east of Monaltrie Park, home of the Ballater Highland Games. This is a quiet location on the edge of this attractive Victorian village, with fine views to Craigendarroch and Pannanich Hill. The campsite will be signed from the junction of the A93 in Ballater (Braemar Road) and Provost Craig Road.

The campsite will be open from 5pm on Friday 28 or 9.30am on Saturday 29th July, until the morning of Sunday 6 August and includes space for campervans as well as family, quiet, mixed and youth zones.  On Registration day, Saturday 29 July, campers are asked to park up at the campsite before going to the event centre at the Victoria & Albert Halls.

Access to camping pitches by vehicle is allowed for setting up and taking down tents, but during the rest of the week we ask you to park your vehicle in the allocated space by the entrance.   Campers are asked to respect others, with no vehicles allowed to enter the parking area after 2200 hrs and a polite request to keep noise down to a minimum after dark. A warden will be on call 24/7 and we will also provide daytime campsite security.

Campsite Layout

The campsite will include multiple shower units, flushable “mains” toilets with sinks and additional screened off sink units.  Electrical hook-ups will be available as a costed option for all campsite users (limited availability).  Chemical toilet emptying facilities will be provided.  Washing/drying facility will be available for orienteers at the Ballater Caravan Park. This would be on a self-help basis by arrangement with the wardens on site. Note that they go off for the evening at 7pm.

The event centre is within 5 minutes’ walk, and local shops including a supermarket, bakery and butcher are also within easy walking distance.  The local Co-op is open from 0600 hrs-2200 hrs daily.  Several shops are “By Royal Appointment”so quality is assured.

Immediately adjacent to the campsite is a play area for younger children, as well as space for football, frisbee or other team games.  Dogs are allowed on site and a dog walking area will be available.  Depending on your network 4G may be available on the campsite, and full Wi-Fi is available in the event centre.

The shuttle bus service to race venues will run from near the campsite, and is included as part of the entry fees (pre-booking necessary).

Campsite pre-booking is preferred through the online entries system for the event, with limited availability of pitches at the event.

Electrical Hookup

The electrics will be installed to BS7909 which is for temporary event power.

The temporary system will still provide RCD protection on each supply. Power surges are very rare but are a possibility with the generators so if people are connecting sensitive equipment they should have their own surge protected adapter with them.

We will provide a standard 16amp blue socket within 10m of each pitch similar to a standard campsite set-up.
